The electric version of the TVS Jupiter will be launched by June 2018.

TVS Jupiter Long Term Review
The Jupiter currently is powered by a 110cc engine that produces 7.8 HP of power

TVS is planning to launch an electric version of its best-selling scooter, the Jupiter by June 2018. The Jupiter electric is expected to feature a lithium-ion battery with a range of up to 50 kms. Other than the electric scooters, TVS is also working on a hybrid scooter expected to launch by the end of this fiscal year.

The Government’s push for electric vehicles by 2030, has made every automaker in India take the electric technology seriously. Hero MotoCorp also invested a sum of Rs. 205 crores in Ather Energy which is an electric two-wheeler startup. Mahindra has acquired US-based electric vehicles company, GenZe, and will bring electric scooters in India by 2019.

Bajaj is working on a new brand called Urbanite which will make electric vehicles (both two-wheelers and three-wheelers) for both domestic and international markets. Companies like Hero Electric and Ampere Vehicles, on the other hand, already have been selling electric vehicles from the past 3-4 years and if reports are to be believed, till date, around 4.5 lakh electric two-wheelers have been sold in India (in the past 8 years).
