While the updated 2015 Jetta gets no changes mechanically, the mild tweaks to the exteriors and interiors add more class and elegance to the D-segment sedan.

Updating its extremely capable sedan for the 2015 model year, Volkswagen India has launched the new Jetta facelift in the country priced at Rs. 13.87 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Launched internationally last year, the updated Jetta gets a host of subtle tweaks to the exteriors and interiors that induce a fresh appeal in the sedan while the mechanicals remain untouched with the existing petrol and diesel engine options performing duties.

Design – At first glance, the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta does not sport a radically different styling but gets bolder and more upright in appearance. Retaining the simplicity and elegance, the 2015 Jetta gets revised three-slat chrome grille, a revised bumper with wider air intakes and new fog lamps on offer. The headlight cluster with bi-xenons remain the same but get updated with new integrated LED DRLs which offer a jewel light effect previously seen on older Audi models.

In addition to the front, the rear profile also gets significant changes including the new Audi inspired tail lights that look sharp while the boot-lid has been mildly tweaked offer a clean appearance. The side profile gets no changes compared to the older model and the sedan continues to get the existing double pattern alloy wheels from the older version that just refuse to get old. Volkswagen has added a new Silk Blue Metallic colour on the Jetta that breaks the monotony of silvers and browns of the world and certainly would be our pick.

Interiors – Nothing drastic has changed inside the cabin of the 2015 Jetta facelift. However, you do find the new flat-bottom steering wheel offering a sporty feel and also gets updated with paddle shifters on the DSG version for quick shifts. In addition to the new steering wheel, the instrument cluster has also been revised with 3D effect and adds to the premium appeal of the cabin. The cluster also now gets Fatigue Detection System on offer. The overall cabin gets finished in black and beige colour theme with faux wood panels and chrome inserts that compliment the overwhelming build quality on the sedan.

In terms of features, the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta is pretty loaded with a touchscreen music system on the higher variants with 8 speakers, 6 CD changer and AUX input, Bluetooth telephony, dual-zone climate control and parking sensors. You do not get the sunroof and reversing camera though across all variants. Coming to the boot capacity, the Jetta offers an impressive 510-litres of space which can be further increased by folding the rear 60:40 split rear seats.

Engines – The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta facelift gets no tweaks to the engines and power for the petrol versions comes from the 1.4-litre 4-cylinder TSI engine tuned to produce 122 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, paired to only a 6-speed manual gearbox. Diesel power comes from the 2.0-litre TDI motor (a common unit in the Volkswagen family) and produces 140 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG automatic transmission on offer.

Safety – Boasting of an amazing build quality, the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta facelift comes equipped with a host of safety features including six airbags, ABS, ESP and also has the 5-star Euro NCAP rating to its credit.

Fuel Efficiency – In terms of fuel efficiency, Volkswagen claims that the Jetta facelift returns an ARAI certified 16.96 km/l on the diesel automatic and 14.69 km/l on the petrol manual versions.

While the D-segment sedan space may not be as popular now as it used be at one point of time, the sheer class of the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta is enough to make buyers reconsider their reasons to purchase an SUV. That being said, the new Jetta already has some stiff competition on offer from rivals in the segment which include the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, Renault Fluence and the likes in the segment.
