Skoda plans to launch the Citigo in India next year. The Citigo is Skoda’s version of the Volkswagen Up! and will help the company get the volumes, it so desires. Skoda considers India a key market for its growth and is heavily betting on China and Russia as well. Skoda will undoubtedly price the Citigo lower than the Up! as Volkswagen has always been the premium brand of the two. The production of the Citigo has already started at Bratislava, Slovakia as Skoda looks at launching the car in Europe next month. However, in all probability, we will have get the Citigo only after Volkswagen unleashes the Up! in India. The Skoda Citigo has a length of 3.56 meters, width of 1.65 meters and a height of 1.48 meters. Power will come through 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engines with the option of 60 BHP and 75 BHP. A diesel model based on the 1.2-liter TDI unit will also do duty on the Citigo at a later stage.

“The Citigo is a central component of our growth strategy. With this automobile, we are starting our model offensive in Europe. It opens up the important small car market for Škoda and perfectly applies our values in the shape of a city car. Citigo is compact yet spacious, economical yet agile, attractive and equipped with many innovative ideas. This car is ‘city clever’,” Prof. Dr. h.c. Winfried Vahland, Chairman of the Board of Skoda, said.
