2019 Yamaha MT-15 Launch
The MT-15 will have the same price as the R15

Yamaha is definitely one of India’s top manufacturers of sporty low displacement motorcycles, with the YZF R15 V3 being a classy example. Thus, encashing on the reputation, the Japanese 2-wheeler maker is looking to bring the MT-15 naked motorcycle in the country this year.

This new Yamaha MT-15 will be priced at a similar range as the current R15 V3, which is Rs. 1.27 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is based closely on the fully-faired motorcycle but is much more aggressive and muscular. It shares a lot of components with the R15 too, like the 100/80 front and 140/70 rear tyres (both 17-inches).

Being a naked street motorcycle, the new Yamaha MT-15 has a very upright riding ergonomics with more comfortable seats. It gets certain other features from the R15, like the fully-digital display console, suspension setup for both the wheels and the braking. Moreover, it will even have ABS at the time of launch, thereby being compliant with the norms that come into effect from April this year.

Mechanically, it will get the newly-tweaked engine that Yamaha uses for the YZF R15 V3. This means it is powered by the 155cc VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) engine that makes for superb low-end punch. It is capable of churning out a maximum power of 19.3 BHP and a peak torque of 15 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Yamaha might also consider introducing the bigger MT-03 and MT-10 in India post the launch of this MT-15. It is expected to be launched this year itself.
