There is absolutely no doubt that almost every quarter-litre loving market globally is waiting to get their hands on the Yamaha R25. Launched in Indonesia earlier this year, the country will be the sports bike’s manufacturing hub globally and will export the R25 to around 30 countries over the coming years. While Indonesians are enjoying the R25 first hand, it now appears that Vietnam will be the second market to get the bike before the rest of the world including India.
The Yamaha R25 was spotted on display in Vietnam as part of marketing activities and could be launched in the coming months in the South East Asian country. While the launch was expected, what is concerning though is the fact that Vietnam gets it first, instead of India. Clearly, India is a bigger market than Vietnam by all means and will provide with higher sales to the Japanese manufacturer. With the hype for the quarter-litre very much alive and growing, it only would make sense to bring in the R25 to the India and capitalise on the opportunity.
Produced at Yamaha’s plant in East Jakarta, the R25 met with an overwhelming demand in the country post launch. The company recently commenced deliveries in Indonesia to the first 500 customers who booked online. The R25 is powered by a 250cc parallel-twin cylinder engine that belts out 36 PS of power and 22.6 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed transmission. Expected to be brought in via the Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) route, the R25 will be priced around Rs. 3-3.25 lakhs in India and will rival the Kawasaki Ninja 300, Honda CBR300R and the KTM RC390 in the same space.
