The 2015 Honda Fit is one funky-looking hatchback and it will be brought down to India as the Jazz. The Jazz will be positioned between the Amaze and the City. The vehicle has recently undergone a crash safety test held by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The model that was tested came with six airbags – front and rear head curtain airbags and front seat-mounted torso airbags along with ABS and ESC. The vehicle has scored a rating of ‘Good’ for most areas except the front small overlap where it bagged an ‘Acceptable’ rating.

The structure of the vehicle stayed composed enough to maintain a good amount of space for the driver and most of the intrusion came only from the door hinge pillar at the bottom. The seatbelt was unable to hold the dummy tightly and this resulted in the head banging on to the steering wheel through the inflated airbag. The lower part of the left leg was also vulnerable to injuries in the tested car (LHD), and hence vice-versa would apply in an RHD car. Due to the seatbelt not holding the dummy tightly, the head moved towards the left pillar and was protected from injuries thanks to the side airbag.

The 2015 Honda Fit will be launched as the Jazz in India, in March 2015. It will come powered with two engines – 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine with 90 PS of power and the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine with 100 PS of power, both of which power the Amaze too. It will come with top-notch quality materials but it is highly unlikely that Honda will provide six airbags and ESC. We can expect the Jazz to come with dual front airbags and ABS only, in which case the above mentioned safety stats would not really hold applicable.
