The Kawasaki Vulcan S will be the first cruiser motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer in the country. It will be locally assembled and will be priced aggressively.
Kawasaki has launched motorcycles across various segments in India right from sports touring (Ninja 650, Ninja 1000), entry-level performance (Z250, Ninja 300), street-fighters (ER-6n, Z800, Z1000), supersport (ZX-10R) and of course hyperbikes (ZX-14R, Ninja H2). It also launched an adventure motorcycle recently, the Versys 1000 and plans to enter a new segment, that of cruisers. A popular category in India, when you say the word cruiser, it’s either Royal Enfield or Harley-Davidson that comes to mind but that is set to change this year.
Launched internationally last year, the Vulcan S is a cruiser with the underpinnings of the Ninja 650. The Kawasaki Vulcan S comes with a low seat height and comes with a customisable seating position with adjustable footpegs, seat height and handlebars. In terms of power, the cruiser uses the same 649cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin motor as the Ninja 650 and is tuned to produce 61 HP of power at 7500 RPM and 62 Nm of torque at 6600 RPM, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike also comes with ABS internationally and that should be offered her too, at least as an option.
To be brought in via the CKD route in the country, the Kawasaki Vulcan S will be priced around Rs. 6 lakhs (ex-showroom), which is attractive pricing indeed. The Indian cruiser market is a flourishing one and the Vulcan S will compete against the Harley-Davidson Street 750, Triumph Bonneville and a host of other offerings in the segment. It will be the first locally assembled Japanese cruiser in India and could boost Kawasaki’s sales in the middle-weight segment. The Vulcan S will be sold via the massive KTM dealership network in the country.
