Maruti Suzuki recently entered the luxury car space with the launch of the Kizashi and as we reported a few days back, is content with the 350 bookings which it has garned for the car. However, the company wants more and will kick of a promotional campaign for the Kizashi during the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2011. Maruti Suzuki may not be known for making big luxury cars but the Kizashi is their attempt to change that and according to early reports, it seem to have worked. The company has received 350 bookings for the Kizashi, which has resulted in a waiting period of two months. The Kizashi attracts a huge import duty owing to be a CBU but if Maruti plans to build it locally, a huge price revision is expected. The company will commence deliveries of the Kizashi from next month.

Maruti Suzuki has launched the Kizashi in India, which is the company’s first offering in the upper end of the Indian car market. It is manufactured at Suzuki Motor Corporation’s Sagara plant in Japan and will be imported into India as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU). Kizashi will be available in India in two variants – Manual Transmission (MT) priced at Rs. 16.5 lakhs and Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) priced at Rs. 17.5 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Kizashi is powered by a 2.4 liter DOHC J–Series engine that has a maximum output of 178 PS @ 6,500rpm and a maximum torque of 230Nm @ 4,000rpm. As the Kizashi launch nears, Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the official website of the car. The company is positioning the Kizashi as a luxury sports car, and plans to launch it in the coming week. We earlier reported the launch of the Maruti Suzuki Kizashi to be in January, but car market leader has now postponed the same to the 2nd of February, 2011. The Kizashi will be completely imported (CBU) from Suzuki’s facility in Japan and will rival the Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Laura, Honda Civic and Volkswagen Jetta. Maruti Suzuki will launch the Kizashi on the 28th of January, 2011. This will be the company’s first foray into the D-segment market which has been dominated by the likes of Honda and Skoda. The Maruti Kizashi will be priced around Rs. 16 lakhs and will be powered by a 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine producing 185 bhp of power at 6500 Rpm and 235Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Maruti Suzuki plans to go premium in India, even though it failed to capture the premium SUV market with the Grand Vitara. The company will launch the Kizashi early next year and intents to manufacture it locally to keep costs down. This would mean that the Kizashi will be priced around Rs. 17 lakhs making it a competitive alternative to the likes of the Honda Accord and Skoda Laura. However the made in Kizashi is still take a couple of years away as Maruti has serious capacity constraints at its Manesar facility.
