2014 Kawasaki Ninja RR Mono

An affordable Kawasaki Ninja 250 is everybody’s dream which has now finally come true. The Japanese giant has unveiled the Kawasaki Ninja RR Mono in Indonesia, a 250cc bike which uses a single-cylinder engine. Till now the Ninja 250 was only available with a parallel-twin motor which pushed prices upwards. With a single-cylinder mill, Kawasaki will be able to price the Ninja 250 very aggressively. Mono which means single signifies the engine configuration of this new green machine. Sales of the bike will commence in Indonesia next month and the bike is locally manufactured there.

The Kawasaki Ninja R Mono is powered by a 250cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected, DOHC engine which belts out 27.61 BHP of power at 9700 RPM and 22.6 Nm of torque at 8200 RPM. The motorcycle has a top speed of 153 km/hr and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The Ninja 250 RR Mono is underpinned by a tube type diamond frame and runs on 110/80/17 and 130/70/17 tyres at the front and rear respectively. Braking duties are taken care by 263 mm disc at the front and 193 mm disc at the rear, both petal shaped but ABS isn’t standard (it’s optional). The Ninja RR has a 11-litre fuel tank and a kerb weight of 151 kgs.

The length of 1935 mm, width of 685 mm and height of 1075 mm make the Kawasaki Ninja RR Mono a tad smaller than the twin-cylindered Ninja 250/300. The wheelbase is 1330 mm, again shorter than the regular Ninja 250. This Ninja has a single piece headlight and the full faired bike looks quite attractive. It get an all digital instrument cluster which looks quite small. The bike will be supplied by Kawasaki Indonesia to the world with sales likely to commence in emerging markets in later half of the year.

Kawasaki has become very serious about its Indian operations which is quite apparent looking at the company’s launches in the past six months. The manufacturer of the world’s fastest accelerating bike is looking at boosting volumes in the domestic market and the Ninja RR Mono is the right product to do so. However local assembly isn’t enough to reach an attractive price, Kawasaki needs to manufacture this bike in India which isn’t a tough job as the company is already procuring quite a few parts for the Ninja 300 locally. When launched in India, expect the Kawasaki Ninja RR Mono to be priced under Rs. 2 lakhs (ex-showroom).
