Suzuki plans to sell 1 lakh units of the new Gixxer in this fiscal

Optimistic by the rising demand for its newly launched motorcycle, Suzuki is aiming to sell around one lakh units of the Gixxer in the country in the current financial year. The Gixxer was launched earlier this month to positive reviews and has been slowly picking up momentum on the sales front. The company plans to capture at least 10 percent market share in the 150cc category by the end of the year and thus it expects to sell around one lakh units by the end of this fiscal.

Suzuki stated that there have been over 3000 bookings for the Gixxer within days of launch, with 2000 already delivered. The company has seen strong sales from states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Furthermore, Suzuki is also expanding its dealership base for two-wheelers in the country. The Japanese giant plans to increase its touch points to 1000 by the end of the financial year from the current 630, while dealerships will double in number to 600 units from the current 330.

Suzuki has been aggressive about its plans for India in recent times. While it currently retails only a handful of products, the next couple of years will see the company launch a slew of new scooters and motorcycles across different segments. The manufacturer sold around 4 lakh two-wheeler units last year and plans to expand to 1 million units in the next 3 years. Suzuki’s current market share stands at 11 percent in the scooter segment and around 1 percent in motorcycles. The Gixxer is priced at Rs. 72,199/- (ex-showroom, Delhi).
