Bajaj Auto’s new motorcycle is designed as a cross between a commuter and cruiser, which draws power from a 150cc single-cylinder engine.
Bajaj Auto’s next major launch will be an all-new commuter motorcycle that will co-exist with the Discover brand in the automaker’s lineup. With the launch some time away, the model was first spotted testing last month and now more clear spy shots of the test mule have emerged online, giving a slightly better look at the upcoming offering. Moreover, the spy shots reveal the different design language that will be seen which looks like a cross between a commuter and cruiser.
Bajaj is keeping things decidedly different on the new offering experimenting with a new design language. Unlike the Avenger which is an out-and-out cruiser, the new bike retains its commuter stance but with elements of a cruiser. You can spot the large fuel tank which is longer than usual, new chassis, fatter rear tyre and wide tail section. The exhaust seems to be an all-new unit and is rather large compared to the ones we’ve seen on existing models. The long rear shocks finished in chrome also grab immediate attention.
Lastly, the instrument cluster on the test mule comes from the older Bajaj Pulsar 150 and could be specific to the test model with a completely different unit doing duty on the production-spec bike. In terms of performance, the source suggests that the new commuter will be using a revised 149cc single-cylinder motor that will churn out around 15 BHP of power, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The automaker also plans to expand the new brand with more models, which will result in smaller capacity motorcycles also being launched in the future.
Bajaj is known to conduct extensive tests on its offerings and we expect to see more spy shots quite repeatedly over the next couple of months. Given the dramatically different design, it will be interesting to see if the same is appreciated by the target audience. Going by previous reports, the upcoming motorcycle will be launched by mid-2016.
