Launched in 2013, the Ford EcoSport has been a runaway success for the American carmaker in India having a stylish design and desirable features. Now, after just two years of launch, Ford India has been quick to introduce the updated version of the compact SUV that gets several new changes. This clever move has been made just prior to the lucrative festive season and post the launch of new compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra TUV300. The most noticeable change on the updated EcoSport includes the new Golden Bronze colour, which we have seen on the Fiesta. The exterior styling remains more or less the same but the new LED DRL headlamps look cool and make the face look fresh. The spare wheel remains intact on the tail gate that was rumoured to be removed with the update. There are not many interior styling updates either but Ford has spruced up the cabin with chrome embellishments on the inner door handles, instrument cluster ring, instrument cluster appliqué, window regulator switches and air register tabs.
The updated model comes with leatherette upholstered seats and leather wrapped handbrake lever and steering wheel. Ford has provided some useful new features to the new EcoSport that comes with rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, light guide and electrochromic rear-view mirror among others. The infotainments system gets SYNC system with AppLink that lets you interact with your phone without taking it out of your pocket.
The most crucial change that the Ford EcoSport gets is the updated diesel engine. The 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine now produces 100 PS (9 PS more) but a minutely reduced claimed fuel efficiency of 22.27 km/l (22.67 km/l on the 91 PS version). The carmaker has introduced a new Trend+ variant which is available with the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel and EcoBoost 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 125 PS of power and returns 18.88 km/l of fuel efficiency.
