The Japanese giant has re-launched the bygone Honda Unicorn 150 with a BS-IV engine. This strategic move was planned to increase sales and to meet customer demand, as announced at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The motorcycle segment is a tricky business in the Indian market. For the average Indian buyer, a bike must have good mileage, decent ride quality and longevity. Honda has faired decently in this segment with not many eye-catching models. The CB Hornet 160R and CB Unicorn 160 were able to garner mediocre sales and Honda has since been in the search for their solution. As announced at the 2016 Auto Expo, Honda re-launched the Unicorn 150 with a BS-IV certification, resembling the once hit road vehicle.

The price of the 2016 Honda CB Unicorn 150 is now updated on the company’s website and the motorcycle is priced at Rs. 82,512/- (on-road, Mumbai). The above mentioned price doesn’t include optional items with the ex-showroom price being Rs. 74,085/-. Only one variant is offered.

As for the appearance, there aren’t many visibly significant changes. Available in two colours, Red and Black, the Unicorn 150 is back by popular demand. Honda has discontinued the much-popular silver fairing but the design has still retained its strong body panels and fenders. For now, the new Unicorn won’t be released with ABS or CBS, but will receive them as a mandatory package by 2018.

The Honda CB Unicorn 150 is built on a single down-tube frame, which gives it the required agility and stability. It uses telescopic front suspension and a monoshock at the rear. The bike possesses the usual disc and drum combination for the front and rear brakes.

The Honda Unicorn 150 is powered by a single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that displaces 149cc and churns out a decent 13.14 HP at 8500 RPM and produces a peak torque of 12.84 Nm at 5500 RPM. This is a Bharat Stage IV certified engine. So, rest assured this is one for the future. It retains the same 5-speed manual gearbox with the 1-down, 4-up pattern for shifting.
