The GD250R is the most technologically advanced bike to come from Hyosung at present

Partner to Hyosung and now Benelli, DSK Motowheels concentration for the first half of 2015 was on the latter bringing a plethora of Chinese owned Italian performance motorcycles to the country. However, this also led to several plans for the Korean partner being pushed for the year. Nonetheless, Hyosung is back on track once again with its Indian operations and will soon introduce its most affordable offering the GD250R full faired sports bike, which was recently spotted for the first time in the country running on temporary registration plates.

To be positioned in the entry-level quarter-litre space, Hyosung confirmed production for the GD250R internationally in December last year, while its naked version the GD250N made its India debut at the 2014 Auto Expo last February. Having already completed the homologation process in April this year, both the GD250R and GD250N are likely to be launched in the country by October during the festive season and will be brought in via the CKD route. Assembly for the models will take place at DSK’s facility in Wai that also assembles the GT250R and the entry-level models from Benelli.

In terms of power, the Hyosung GD250R uses a 249cc 4-valve, single-cylinder engine belting out 28 BHP at 8500 RPM and 24 Nm of torque at 7000 RPM, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Complimenting the power numbers is the sporty design complete with dual headlamps, a slender frame, star-shaped alloy wheels, slit seats and a rather wide tail tidy. The bike also boasts of USD front forks while the rear gets an offset mounted monoshock unit. Braking performance comes from a 300 mm disc up front and 230 mm rear disc brakes, while ABS is not available even as an option.

Hyosung’s most technologically advanced motorcycle, the GD250R will be primarily rivalling the KTM RC 200 and the Honda CBR250R in the segment. The manufacturer will have to price the GD series very competitively to gain traction in this space and one can expect to shell out around Rs. 1.80 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the full faired offering. Globally, Hyosung is working on a new line of products that will be launched over the next few years including the next generation GT250R that is likely to make its debut at the EICMA show this November.
