Mercedes is studying a new electric vehicle brand called EQ and has revealed the Mercedes Generation EQ Concept at the Paris Motor Show. The all-electric SUV previews the future of Mercedes EQ family. It comes with a simple design language which is reminiscent to the current crop of Mercedes SUVs, specially the GLC.

The front profile of the Generation EQ concept features a huge black panel with illuminated 3-pointed star and some more details of the grille in blue colour. The side and rear angles reveal plain vanilla styling of the electric SUV having clean lines that look quite classy yet futuristic.

The interiors get a quirky 3-spoke steering wheel that looks retro, a super wide modular display jutting out of the slim dashboard. There are four individual seats in the cabin which have headrest integrated speakers. Powering the Mercedes Generation EQ Concept is a pair of electric motors producing 402 BHP of power and 700 Nm of torque. 0-100 km/hr comes in under 5 seconds.

All the power is transmitted to a permanent four-wheel drive system. It comes with a Daimler made lithium-ion battery pack mounted between the axles, offering a driving range of 500 km on full charge. Along with the traditional and fast charging technology, the batteries can also be charged wirelessly. 5 minutes of fast charging can give 100 km range.

The Mercedes Generation EQ Concept to be one of the first vehicles under the EQ brand to reach production in 2019. It will take on the likes of the Tesla Model X and Audi’s upcoming e-Tron Quattro. The automaker claims the price range will be the same as a well equipped Mercedes GLC and by 2025 they will have more than 10 all-electric cars in their lineup.
