Volkswagen Ameo Review
The 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine produces 5 PS more on the Ameo

Volkswagen launched the Ameo in India recently but the compact sedan was offered only with the 1.2-litre MPI petrol engine. The German automaker has now launched the Ameo diesel and it is priced from Rs. 6.27 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The Ameo diesel is available in 3 trims – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.

The Volkswagen Ameo comes with the same 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine that powers the Polo and Vento. However, it has received some tweaks now and it produces 110 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The oil-burner is mated a 5-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency is 21.66 km/l for the manual and 21.73 km/l for the automatic.

The Ameo diesel has the same exteriors and interiors as the petrol version and there are no changes except the TDI badging at the rear. It comes with features like automatic climate control, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, cooled glovebox, infotainment system with Bluetooth, etc.

The diesel trim of the Volkswagen Ameo is likely to generate good demand while the petrol version hasn’t been able to fetch good sales. The Volkswagen Ameo competes with the Maruti Swift DZire, Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent.
