The new Wagon R will be priced at a slight premium over the current car

The 2018 Maruti Wagon R has been spied testing yet again but this time around without camouflage. The hatchback is reportedly based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform and is all set for an India launch in the coming months.

The spy images reveal the car completely. The 2018 Maruti Wagon R retains the famous tall-boy design and still manages to look fresh and new all thanks to the completely redone front and rear profile. The front gets a 3-slat chrome grille flanked by large headlights on either side and a large and wide radiator grille in the lower bumper.

The side profile is more or less similar to the current car and sports steel wheels with wheel covers. The rear end, with the new LED tail-lights and without any chrome bar looks clean and clutter free. The next-generation Wagon R is also seen with an Idling Stop badge at the rear. The said system helps in enhancing fuel efficiency.

While images of the interior aren’t available, the 2018 Maruti Wagon R is likely to get features like touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel with audio controls and more legroom (because of the marginal increase in wheelbase) for rear passengers. Dual airbags and ABS will be standard across the range.

The 2018 Maruti Wagon R is powered by a 1.0-litre K-Series petrol motor that produces 67 HP of power and 90 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT. The 2018 Wagon R is also most likely to come powered by the same powertrain but with better performance and mileage figures.

However, the car in the spy shots is a diesel-powered Wagon R imported as a CBU by Suzuki. The automaker could also be testing a new diesel engine that will replace the existing Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre DDiS mill. However, nothing is certain as yet.
