The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS promises to be absolute fun on the race track

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been launched in India with a sticker price of Rs. 2.74 crore (ex-showroom, India). This is the company’s third GT road-approved sports car after the 911 GT3 and 911 GT2 RS. The new 911 GT3 RS is now available to order in India.

Based on the 911 GT3, the track-focused RS variant gets better aerodynamics, minor visual changes and motorsport-derived chassis over the predecessor. The sports car comes equipped with carbon fibre front wings and bonnet (with new NACA ducts to aid in brake cooling) and a magnesium roof. The racing aesthetics continue to the interior as well. There are full carbon-fibre bucket seats, lightweight door panels featuring storage nets, reduced sound absorption materials and a new lightweight rear lid.

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS gets a motorsport-inspired chassis with new 20-inch lightweight rims for the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. The front wheels are wrapped with 265-section tyres while the rear gets wider 325-section rubber to improve traction. The German sports car maker is offering the Clubsport package as standard which includes a roll-over bar, manual fire-extinguisher, preparation for battery-disconnect switch and six-point safety harness.

For more weight-savings which aid in better performance, there is Weissach package which is optional. This package gives additional carbon-fibre components for the chassis, interior and exterior (carbon-fibre roof) and optional magnesium wheels. Customers specifying the full pack will be able to shave off 30 kg of the 1460 kg model.

Powering the RS variant is a 4.0-litre, 6-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 520 HP (up by 20 HP thanks to the new intake and exhaust systems along with changes to Porsche’s Digital Motor Electronics). The powertrain is mated to a specially calibrated 7-speed PDK gearbox. Accelerating from 0-100 km/hr in just 3.2 seconds, top speed is rated at 312 km/hr.
