Hyundai has made sure that its new Santa Fe vehicle does not compromise on passenger safety. In recent results released by the Euro NCAP, the Santa Fe has scored a 5-star safety rating. To achieve this safety rating, the company has added safety features to the car like airbags for the driver and passengers, front head, rear head & front side, child safety locks, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning. To aid the factor of safe driving, the vehicle comes integrated with 4-Wheel ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Daytime Running Lights, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, Brake Assist, Traction Control and Blind Spot Monitor.

The car scored well in all the tests it was put through. It showed a 94 percent protection rate for the driver and a protection rate of 88 percent for the child passenger. It also scored considerably well in the Frontal Full Width, Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier and Lateral Impact tests. However, it scored only reasonably well in the Whiplash Rear Impact test. The side curtain airbag during the side barrier test did not deploy as it was supposed to. Upon investigation, it was found that the airbag had also torn and so Hyundai recalled vehicles with a panoramic roof to change the airbags before any such problems were reported.

Tests conducted on the front seats and head restraints showed a good amount of protection against whiplash injuries for situations when a rear-end collision would take place. However, the rear seats showed poor whiplash protection when they underwent a geometric assessment.

The car’s length is recorded as 4770 mm and width at 1889.76 mm. It stands at a height of 1704 mm. The inline 4-cylinder engine housed by the vehicle can produce power of 185 HP and 241 Nm of torque. It uses a 16-valve, DOHC with D-CVVT valve train paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC and comes in standard front-wheel drive. It is also expected that the vehicle will be launched in India.
