2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Leaked — The new Wagon R is likely to be more spacious than the current model

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is one of the most popular tallboy hatchbacks in India and has a good piece in the market share. However, with the new generation model on the verge of being introduced, a glimpse of the production version has been sighted on our roads.

Going by the design, the new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is a complete overhaul over what is presently on offer. The styling is more modern and upscale to be relevant against the current breed of hatchbacks. However, the essence will still remain intact, that is, the aspect of being a tallboy. It looks curvier than the outgoing model, including the front fascia, which is very flat-ish in the current model. At the rear end, the tail lights look a little bigger than what we have in the current generation.

The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R will be powered by the same 1.0-litre, 4-cylinder, K10B engine that makes 67 BHP of power at 6200 RPM along with a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 RPM. There are high chances that a CNG powertrain could be offered right from the time of launch. And as for the transmission, the same setup could be used, which includes a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

Since this new Maruti Wagon R would be adopting a more upscale approach, there would be some good additions inside the cabin too. The steering will have control buttons mounted on it, while the dashboard will be featuring a new SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, at least on the top-spec variants.

For safety, the new Wagon R will get dual airbags for the front occupants, seat belt reminder, door lock with impact and speed sensor and parking sensors at the rear end. In terms of pricing, the new model could get a marginal hike in price compared to the current model.
