Mahindra to introduce new generation Thar by August this year.

2020 Mahindra Thar Spotted
The new Thar will get major visual update along with new features

There are very few lifestyle vehicles that received immense popularity like Thar in India. Mahindra managed to attract a lot of buyers with a simple recipe. Old school Jeep inspired styling with modern equipment.

Thar offered a torquey diesel, easy to use power steering and AC. However, it had a lot of niggles too. The driving position was off, it was unreliable and had a bouncy ride.

There were no front facing 2nd row seats, no factory fitted hard top roof and few other missing elements. However, it was a fantastic off-road machine for enthusiasts.

Now Mahindra is preparing to launch the next gen Thar in India soon. It is expected to hit the market by August 2020. The Indian carmaker will iron out all these issues.

The Mahindra Thar production version has been spotted recently. It is finished in a bright red colour shade. The car has lost a lot of camouflage. It seems it is about to hit production very soon.

The new model is wider and longer than its predecessor. There are new styling elements inspired by Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Comes with new LED headlights, wider grille, sleek bonnet, new alloys, tail lamps, etc.

The interior will be heavily revised too offering modern styling with modern tech. There will be an option between hard top and soft top configurations. It will have front facing second row seats as well.

Above all, it will be a much refined version. Mahindra will offer a new 2.2-litre BS6 compliant diesel engine good for 140 BHP. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. They are also considering an automatic version.

New gen Mahindra Thar’s key rivals will be the new Force Gurkha and upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
