2021 Mahindra Thar Touchscreen Infotainment System
Dealers will install the touchscreen system before handing the car over to customers

Mahindra dealers have started receiving the 2021 Thar without the touchscreen infotainment system as the automaker is finding it difficult to source the component at present.

The global semiconductor shortage has led to unprecedented problems for carmakers the world over as vehicles are becoming rich in technology with every passing day.

Ford had to cease production at its facilities in India for a few days due to issues with sourcing computer chips and many other carmakers have had to do the same elsewhere, if not in India.

Now, it seems Mahindra is affected by the problem as well. The automaker’s dealers have started receiving the Thar off-roader without the touchscreen infotainment and music system.

These units will reportedly be installed by the dealers before the vehicle is handed over to customers. Some persons who are awaiting delivery of the vehicle have revealed the above.

It is not known whether dealers have the systems in hand, but it is unlikely they do, for even the factory seems to not have as many as Mahindra would want.

This might eventually further increase the waiting period of the Thar that already commands a huge wait-time at the moment before customers can lay a hand on their new toy.

It is believed automakers will have to deal with the global semiconductor shortage till the next quarter. Many have even reached out to alternative suppliers in order to keep production and deliveries unaffected.

On the other hand, Mahindra too has been working toward reducing the waiting period of the 2021 Thar by increasing the number of units produced per month and is also working on a removable hardtop variant of the compact SUV.
