The ‘O’ could mean addition of new features

As of now, Alcazar is available in 20 variants from the base Prestige Petrol 7 seater to the top-end Signature Dual-Tone Diesel AT 6 seater. The SUV’s price starts from Rs. 16.44 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 20.25 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom).

Of the 10 new variants, only 1 is the 2-litre petrol model and rest all are the 1.5-litre diesel models. Out of the 10, 7 are automatic variants. It must be seen what Hyundai is planning to bring to the table with the addition of ‘O’ in the nomenclature. Maybe they could be new features.

The petrol engine gets only 1 new variant

Sources say, the Exe variants might have a slightly lesser asking price thereby effectively bringing down the base price of the SUV in the competitive midsize segment. The car currently competes with Mahindra XUV700, the upcoming Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.

More than a month back, Hyundai was also seen testing the CNG variant of the Alcazar. The 2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which will reportedly get the CNG kit, is the updated version of the unit seen on the Elantra and Tucson.

Currently, it develops 159 HP and 192 Nm. Hyundai also claims that the Alcazar, in the petrol-manual combination, can do the 0-100 km/hr in 9.5 seconds. But, once CNG is installed, there might be drop in power.

Last month, the Alcazar was eighth highest selling midsize SUV selling 1947 units. It achieved a YoY growth of 43 percent. However, its 5 seater counterpart, the Creta, continued to be top seller in the segment registering 10,973-unit sales.
