The motorcycles segment is still being ruled by Hero MotoCorp, but Honda which previously stood at 3rd position, now stands at the 2nd position in terms of sales for the month of April 2017. Honda saw an increase of 22 percent in its motorcycle sales and sold a total of 1,83,266 units last month. Bajaj, which stood 2nd previously, now stands 3rd due to a decline of 19 percent in sales. Bajaj Auto sold 1,61,930 units last month.

In terms of overall 2-wheeler sales, Honda sold 5,78,929 units and grew at 34 percent. Honda also has narrowed the gap with Hero MotoCorp to just 12,377 units. Hero MotoCorp’s sales saw a decline of 3.5 percent to 5,91,306 units. In the domestic market, Honda 2-wheeler sales increased 33 percent to an all time high of 5,51,884 units with over 30 percent market share for the first time.

This is also the first time Honda has crossed the 5.5 lakh sales mark in the domestic market. Backing Honda is also the sales of scooters that saw a 40 percent growth and also crossed the 3.5 lakh mark (3,68,618 units) for the first time ever.
