The Maruti S-Presso is swiftly bridging the gap and might soon take the top position.

Entry Hatchback Segment Nov'19

Hatchbacks are here to stay. They are these general mass-movers and are a proud +1 of many Indian families. If we look back on how they’ve fared in the last 2 months, the numbers seem quite stable and similar.

It’s no surprise that the Maruti Alto is at the top spot with 15,086 units sales, but what is fascinating is that the newly launched Maruti S-Presso is at its tail with 11,220 units in its kitty. Just to give an idea, let me mention that the Kia Seltos raked in 14,005 units in November 2019 after being appreciated so much while the S-Presso has garnered similar numbers despite being bashed for its looks.

While the entry hatchback segment recorded a cumulative growth of 23%, there wasn’t a single product with a positive YoY figure.

Compact Hatchback Segment Nov'19

Coming to the compact hatchback segment, only 3 out of 14 products have recorded positive numbers. The Maruti Swift degrew by -13% YoY but reigned its top position after selling 19,314 units in November 2019. The Maruti WagonR grew 30% while the Hyundai Grand i10 recorded 10% YoY growth in the same time period. Its noteworthy that the Tata Tiago is in the top 5 selling compact hatchbacks this month after raking in 4811 units.

Premium Hatchback Segment Nov'19

The premium hatchback segment didn’t budge even a percent and cumulatively breaks even at O% YoY growth. The Maruti Baleno takes the top position after gathering 18,047 units in November 2019. While the Honda Jazz re-enters the list at the last position, the Volkswagen Polo is the one car in the list with a positive YoY growth of 20%.
