The Suzuki Swift failed to score any points in the Latin NCAP child occupant protection test

The crash test results of the 2021 Suzuki Swift have been revealed by Latin NCAP and the hatchback failed to score any stars whatsoever.

Equipped with dual front airbags, seat belt reminder (driver only), seat belt pretensioners, belt load limiters and ISOFIX mounts in the rear outboard seats as standard, the Swift that was tested weighed 1106 kg.

Its adult occupant protection score was 6.21 points or 15.53 percent in total. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test (64 km/hr), the Swift offered weak protection to the driver’s chest and adequate protection to the passenger chest area.

While both driver and passenger had good head and neck protection, the driver and one of the passenger’s knees only had marginal protection.

The Suzuki Swift Latin NCAP side test (50 km/hr) showed that the car offered good head and pelvis protection, adequate abdomen protection and poor chest protection. Also, the rear passenger door opened and thus the Swift was awarded 0 points for this test.

Latin NCAP rated the Swift’s footwell area as unstable and bodyshell as boderline unstable without the capability of withstanding further loadings.

For child occupant protection, Latin NCAP gave the Swift 0 points despite the vehicle having standard ISOFIX anchorages in the rear outboard seats since Suzuki declined to recommend Child Restraint System (CRS) for the test and also because disabling the passenger airbag was not possible when a child seat was placed in the front passenger seat.

Furthermore, the Suzuki Swift scored 31.71 points (66 percent) for pedestrian protection and 3 points (7 percent) for Safety Assist, since it does not come with ESC as standard, does not offer speed assistance, Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and Lane Support Systems (LSS).
