Ducati unveils the 2026 Monster with an 890cc engine, India launch next year

Ducati has unveiled the 2026 iteration of its popular Monster, bringing back the muscular design that defined the model in its early years. The latest Monster marks a return to its iconic big-tank styling and becomes the fourth Ducati motorcycle to feature the brand’s 890cc V2 engine. An India launch is anticipated sometime next year.

Visually, the new Monster revives its classic look with a prominent tank that integrates air vents reminiscent of the second-generation model. The headlamp has also been redesigned with a circular daytime running light (DRL) that now includes dynamic turn indicators. The larger tank not only enhances the bike’s aesthetic appeal but also improves steering range.

Underneath, the 2026 Monster uses Ducati’s new 890cc V-twin engine, the same powerplant seen on the Panigale V2, Streetfighter V2 and Multistrada V2. It generates 111 HP at 9000 RPM and 91.1 Nm of torque at 7250 RPM, paired with a six-speed gearbox and a bi-directional quickshifter. The motor features a variable valve timing system to provide a broader torque spread, and notably, offers a longer 45,000 km interval between valve clearance checks – a first for the Monster.

Built around an aluminium monocoque frame that uses the engine as a stressed member, the new Monster maintains Ducati’s lightweight design philosophy. The bike weighs just 175 kg (dry), four kilograms less than its predecessor. It features a technopolymer trellis subframe and a double-sided swingarm inspired by the Panigale V4.

Suspension duties are handled by a 43 mm Showa USD fork and a preload-adjustable rear shock, while braking is managed by twin 320 mm discs with Brembo calipers. The new model also introduces a single-piece seat with a lower 815 mm height, with optional accessories allowing it to drop to 775 mm.

In terms of technology, the Monster is equipped with a six-axis IMU that governs systems like cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and engine-brake control. Riders can select from four modes – Sport, Road, Urban and Wet – each with customisable intervention levels. All settings are displayed on a new 5-inch TFT screen, larger than the previous 4.2-inch unit.

Ducati will offer the 2026 Monster in two trims: the standard Monster and the Monster Plus, which includes a small flyscreen and seat cowl. Both variants will be available in Ducati Red and Iceberg White.

While the bike has been revealed globally, it is expected to reach Indian shores in 2026. The outgoing model was priced at Rs. 13.84 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the new version is likely to carry a slightly higher price tag.
