Mahindra XEV 9S gets Custom mode for suspension flexibility

Mahindra has added a new ‘Custom’ drive mode to the XEV 9S electric SUV, following feedback related to the vehicle’s suspension setup. The update is aimed at providing greater flexibility in how the SUV’s dynamics are configured, particularly on variants equipped with adaptive dampers.

During early media evaluations of the Pack Three variant, some reviewers noted that the adaptive suspension in its standard settings felt relatively soft over mild undulations. At higher speeds, this tuning reportedly resulted in noticeable vertical body movement. Switching to the firmer Race mode was found to offer better body control by tightening the damping characteristics.

New Custom mode allows mix-and-match settings

With the introduction of the Custom mode, drivers can now individually adjust key parameters including the powertrain response, steering weight, suspension firmness and even climate control settings. This allows for combinations that were previously unavailable.

For example, users can now select the firmer suspension setup associated with Race mode while keeping the steering and powertrain in the more relaxed Comfort configuration. The intent appears to be offering a balance between ride control and everyday drivability, depending on user preference.

Available only on adaptive suspension variants

The Custom drive mode is limited to the Pack Three versions of the XEV 9S, which feature adaptive dampers. Lower trims such as Pack One and Pack Two continue with passive suspension and do not receive this update.

Mahindra has confirmed that the Custom mode is part of the production-spec model rather than a later software patch. Deliveries of the XEV 9S began on January 26, and the updated configuration is included in customer vehicles.

A comprehensive drive of the production-spec SUV is expected soon to assess whether the revised settings effectively address earlier observations.
