In April 2022 compact SUV sales, Tata Nexon and Toyota Urban Cruiser shine
Like the hatchbacks, the compact SUV sales too were on a downward hill with most models registering negative growth in April 2022.
But, surprisingly, Tata Nexon has seen one of the never-before-seen growth of 94 percent, nearly doubling its sales. With this, it has become the best-selling SUV in the country beating Hyundai Creta.
The second spot was taken by the once-leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. It has lost its sales owing to the new model coming soon. Still, the SUV didn’t record a negative growth like some of its prime competitors.
At number 3 was another Tata, this time, the entry-level Punch. Since its launch last year, Punch is continuously on a growth path thanks to the incredible value it offers for the price.
In fact, it has even cannibalised the sales of Tata Altroz. In the coming months, it’s expected to perform even better.
At number 4 and 5 are the Hyundai/Kia twins, Venue and Sonet. Both have recorded double-digit de-growth this time. Mahindra’s XUV 300 took the sixth place selling over 4k units. The 5-star rated car performed neutral this time with slight YoY de-growth.
Among the crop of many poor performers, Toyota Urban Cruiser has somehow managed to register excellent sales. It has witnessed 67% YoY growth even at a time the new model is going to be launched. When 2022 model arrives, sales are expected to rise exponentially.
At number 8 and 9, Mahindra Thar and Renault Kiger have faced slight de-growth although sales are expected to pickup next month. At the last place, Nissan Magnite continues to perform poorly. It has faced a humongous 32% de-growth like the Hyundai/Kia twins.
