Kia enters the list with the Seltos at the 12th position to become the 3rd OEM on the list.

Top 25 Selling Cars Aug 2019

A lot is old yet a lot is fresh on this list. Starting with the old, Maruti Suzuki has bagged the top 5 positions and Hyundai has closely followed at the 6th. It’s old and constant news that the automobile industry is struggling but it’s new that the Finance Minister thinks it’s the fault of the millennials. What’s new and noteworthy is the entry of an entirely new brand on the list that has comfortably advanced past established car makers!

The first position is bagged by the Maruti Dzire which is up one position from last month. Despite that, it has recorded a negative year on year (YoY) growth of 40%. Last month’s topper, the Wagon R is at the 3rd position after selling 11,402 units in August 2019. Hyundai is up one rank at the 6th spot with the Grand i10 which was on 14th position last month. The brand’s latest compact SUV, the Venue has held its position at the 7th rank, just like last month. Though the compact-SUV segment benchmark, the Vitara Brezza is up from the 13th position to the 10th position, it still lingers 3 positions down from its youngest rival.

On 8th position, we see the first positive YoY growth i.e of the Maruti Eeco at 32%, followed by the Ertiga at the highest of 139%.

Having said that, Kia is the new talk of the town as with its debut launch in India, it has comfortably stationed itself at the 12th position leaving veterans like Tata Motors, Ford and Mahindra in a frenzy. The Seltos has also sold 235 units more than its arch rival and a segment favourite, the Creta.

As the Kwid exits the list, Renault manages to keep itself afloat with the Triber helping it save face on 23rd position. Maruti’s latest premium MPV offering, the XL6 sold 2356 units in August 2019 and takes the second last position while Toyota’s Glanza adjusts at the bottom with 2322 units.
