The new Avenger could also be powered by the new 400cc DOHC engine which is currently under development

Bajaj is reportedly working on a new 400cc DOHC engine and what’s even more interesting is that a new sub-brand is likely to be introduced with this new 400cc powertrain. Featuring an in-house developed ECU, triple-spark technology and gearing, the engine will be an all-new unit and could develop approximately 40 HP of power. A Bajaj official recently revealed that two major launches have been planned for the month of January 2018.

As usual, there are high speculations as to which are the two bikes. While Bajaj has remained tight-lipped, sources suggest that one of the two bikes is likely to be the new Avenger. The Suzuki Intruder 150 has definitely heated up the entry-level cruiser bike segment in India and it’s time Bajaj gave an update to the Avenger brand. It was also recently reported that a new variant of the Avenger is under development.

We suspect that the second bike could be the Pulsar RS 400 or a motorcycle with a new name featuring the new 400cc DOHC engine. The Dominar 400 is currently the flagship product for Bajaj and if it is the RS 400, it could very well rival the TVS’ Apache RR 310 and be the most expensive Bajaj bike in India.

Meanwhile, the company has reported a 21 percent increase in November sales (both domestic and exports included), selling a total of 3.26 lakh units in the last month as compared to 2.7 lakh units sold the same month a year ago. Exports stood at 1.46 lakh units while it sold 1.79 lakh units in the domestic market. Motorcycle sales, in particular, rose by 11 percent to 2.64 lakh units. Interestingly, 3-wheeler sales have also been strong, in fact, very strong. A total of 62,488 units were sold in November 2017 as compared to 32,191 units in November 2016, thereby posting a growth of over 90 percent.
