Bajaj Electric 3-Wheeler Launch
The firm should have launched its first electric 3-wheeler 2 years ago

Bajaj Auto will launch its electric 3-wheeler products in the second half (H2) of financial year 2021-22 (FY22) and is also working on an electric version of the Qute at present.

Had things gone to plan, the Bajaj electric 3-wheeler launch would have happened in 2019, followed by the introduction of the Chetak electric scooter.

But, the Chetak became the first electric vehicle from the brand when it was launched in January 2020. While shortage of battery cells did hamper the launch of the brand’s electric 3-wheelers last year, a sudden consumer shift towards personal mobility would not have helped matters had the firm launched any such models in 2020.

However, with schools reopening in 2021 along with offices and commercial spaces getting back to their earlier ways, the 3-wheeler segment leader does not want to waste any time in introducing its electric 3-wheelers.

It is likely that the brand will first introduce its electric auto rickshaws, followed by the electric LCV and the electric Qute, which is also under development.

Currently, Bajaj is testing prototypes of the above and is working towards addressing range anxiety and profitability for drivers, while also focusing on reducing costs.

Apart from Bajaj, TVS too is set to enter the segment, which saw 6.3 lakh units get sold in FY19, with an electric 3-wheeler in FY22.
