BMW F450GS may launch with semi-auto gearbox and touring-focused hardware
BMW Motorrad appears to be readying its upcoming F450GS for an Indian debut and new information suggests that the motorcycle might break fresh ground in its segment. The most significant update is the possibility of a semi-automatic gearbox option, which would be a first for the entry-level GS series.
Potential Dual Transmission Options
Sources indicate that the F450GS could be offered in two variants, one with a traditional manual gearbox and another with a semi-automatic transmission. If true, this move would be aimed at attracting younger or less experienced riders who may find the convenience of a clutchless system more accessible. While BMW has not officially confirmed the transmission tech details, expectations lean toward a simpler semi-auto solution rather than a sophisticated, high-end dual-clutch system like on some of its premium models.
Wheel Setup Points Toward Touring DNA
The F450GS is also expected to sport a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel configuration, mirroring the setup seen on the flagship R1300GS. This suggests a more road-oriented, touring-friendly design rather than a full-blown off-road machine. This direction aligns with the needs of urban riders and long-distance tourers more than hardcore adventure enthusiasts.
India Launch Soon, Made by TVS
BMW is planning to globally unveil the F450GS by September, with the India launch to follow shortly afterward. The motorcycle will be produced at TVS Motor’s Hosur facility under BMW’s partnership and will be exported to other global markets as well.
Expected Pricing
The F450GS is likely to carry an ex-showroom price tag of around Rs. 4 lakh for the base model, placing it competitively in the entry-level adventure touring space.
