Local production will help BMW price the G310R aggressively

The much awaited BMW G310R has finally started production at TVS’ Hosur facility, and will act as the production hub for global markets. The G310R is one of the most anticipated bikes that is set for launch in this festive season. The small capacity BMW will be a locally manufactured unit, which will greatly aid the German automaker to provide an aggressive price tag for the G310R.

The BMW G310R is the first product to be built under the TVS-BMW alliance. The joint venture was started 2 years ago, and marks BMW’s second entry into the Indian market. Its first bout was plagued with a lot of pricing issues due to the imported nature of its bikes (last time it came to India with Hero Honda). However, BMW has taken the joint venture route learning from Bajaj-KTM, which will help the company price its products better.

The BMW G310R was first unveiled in Brazil last year, and is powered by the company’s brand new 313cc motor which features a revolutionary reverse canted cylinder design. This engine delivers 34 HP of power and 28 Nm of torque, and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It features a dual channel ABS setup with a 300 mm disc up front, and a 240 mm disc at the rear. It also seems to get sticky Michelin rubber.

The bike is expected to be launched this October, and our recent analysis comparing the UK pricing does point towards a mouth-watering price tag of close to Rs. 1.8 lakhs. The BMW G310R will rival the likes of the KTM Duke 390 and Mahindra Mojo.
