Some BMW dealers in India are offering up to Rs. 5 lakh discounts on their slow selling models including the 3-Series and 5-Series. The discounts are being offered only for 2014 models.

The subtle facelift didn’t work well for the BMW 5-Series

After losing the top spot from Audi, BMW India hasn’t really made significant efforts to get back its position. Moreover, Mercedes has started playing aggressive giving a tough fight in the premium luxury car space. Consequently, the Bavarian automaker is lagging far behind the other two in terms of volumes. Frequent updates and new launches from Audi and Mercedes is one of the reasons why BMW is not able to hold its candle against its rivals.

In order to clear their existing stock, BMW India is offering mouth watering discounts on some of their slow selling models. With the launch of the new generation Mercedes C-Class, the demand for the BMW 3-Series is decreasing and hence there is a flat Rs. 3 lakhs cash discount being offered for the sedan. Despite being updated in 2013, the BMW 5-Series is also finding it difficult to catch eyeballs and is being offered with a Rs. 5 lakh discount for the 520d model.

The BMW 530d is powered by a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel which gets Rs. 2.5 lakhs discount. While the discounts are tempting, the German automaker is only offering them on the 2014 models and showrooms holding the previous year stock are offering these discounts. Recently, BMW also discontinued some variants of the 3-Series and 1-Series due to poor demand. In 2015, the luxury carmaker plans to launch new cars but there’s nothing significant coming which can increase their volumes.
