Citroen C3 Turbo Customer Review

Citroen C3 to get 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission

Citroen’s C3 hatchback, initially launched under the C-cubed program for India, has faced challenges in garnering sales traction, despite its competitive pricing. One notable drawback has been the absence of an automatic gearbox option, limiting its appeal in a market where automatic transmissions are increasingly preferred.

However, Citroen aims to address this shortfall with a significant update slated for June this year. The company has confirmed plans to introduce an automatic gearbox option for the C3 hatchback, alongside other feature enhancements. This move is expected to broaden the vehicle’s appeal among consumers seeking convenience and ease of driving.

The automatic gearbox set to debut in the C3 hatchback is the same 6-speed torque converter unit found in the C3 Aircross SUV. This transmission will be paired with the higher-spec 110 HP, 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine variant.

In terms of pricing, the introduction of the automatic gearbox is anticipated to come with a premium of over Rs. 1 lakh compared to equivalent manual variants. Despite this premium, the enhanced driving experience offered by the torque converter automatic is expected to justify the added cost for many potential buyers.

In addition to the automatic gearbox, Citroen is set to introduce several other features to further enhance the C3’s appeal. These include automatic air conditioning, a foldable key, and LED headlights, addressing some of the key areas where the vehicle previously lagged behind competitors.

Furthermore, Citroen aims to bolster the safety credentials of the C3 by introducing six airbags, ISOFIX anchorages and rear seatbelt reminders as standard features by mid-2024. These additions are particularly crucial following the car’s recent 0-star safety rating from Global NCAP, highlighting the importance of prioritising safety in the competitive Indian market.

Looking ahead, a more comprehensive facelift for the C3 is anticipated next year, featuring redesigned exterior and interior elements.
