DC Avanti, India’s first homogenous designed sportscar was seen rolling on the streets of London driven by Dilip Chhabria himself.
The DC Avanti made its first appearance in 2012 in the form of a pre-production concept car with bookings to begin by the end of the year, but after a few delays the car has finally started being sold across the country. The Avanti is the first home-grown mid-engined sportscar to be ever produced by an Indian manufacturer. The car comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine borrowed from Renault which produces a decent 250 BHP with 340 Nm of torque.
The DC Avanti not only boasts of solid powerhouse under the bonnet, but also has looks which are eye-grabbing. The design of the Avanti was the brainchild of Dilip Chhabria, the founder of DC Design. The chiselled body of the Avanti has mostly remained unchanged since its pre-production prototype stages, sparing a few minor changes. All this means that the Avanti demands quite some road presence which was reserved only to international supercars. But there are no airbags on offer which is quite disappointing.
DC says that this is a sportscar which people can buy and own whenever they can while not needing to save up and turn old in the process. The car is priced at Rs. 35.93 lakhs (ex-showroom, Pune). The Pune-based Indian automobile manufacturer plans to sell around 500 units during 2015 out of which 450 units are already pre-ordered and 300 units have been reserved by foreign clientele.
A recent video of the DC Avanti on YouTube shows the car out on the streets of London, being driven by Dilip Chhabria himself. This shows that the car is ready to hit global markets. The video also shows all the design lines of the car, front to back along with the exhaust note from its turbocharged engine. The looks of the car along with the good sounding exhaust also managed to turn some heads while on British streets. The car is seen sporting MH14 (Chakan) number plates.
