Honda Compact SUV
Banking on sedans alone will not work if Honda wants sales to rise

Honda Cars India is set to launch a new compact SUV in India that will likely replace the WR-V crossover.

Looks like the penny has finally dropped for Honda, which had stated that it is committed to staying in the country, as it is now concentrating on bringing more utility vehicles to the Indian market.

Recently, it came to light that the automaker will launch the next-generation HR-V in India by 2022 (read article here) and now, it is concentrating on the sub-4-metre SUV segment as well.

There is no doubt that it is arguably one of the most heavily crowded segments. Nonetheless, buyers prefer such vehicles nowadays and the increasing sales figure is only proof to that.

Expected to get launched after the introduction of the HR-V in 2022, the Honda compact SUV, to be based on the Amaze’s platform, might hit Indian roads in 2023.

Being a compact SUV, the car is expected to come with stylish looks (it is said the LED tail light cluster will stretch across the width of the car), the latest of premium features inside and out and be practical, like an SUV should be.

Engine and transmission options are likely to mirror those of the Amaze, but Honda needs to work on a turbo petrol variant as well.

When it does get launched, the Honda compact SUV will duke it out with the second-generation Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, among several others.
