The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, was already a fast car and as its name reads, the cat had let all hells loose. Dodge now has unveiled the Challenger SRT Demon, true to its name (Dodge is always known to name its cars right, isn’t it? People will at least agree after reading this article completely). The Challenger SRT Demon, based on the Hellcat, takes the game to a whole new level.

Lookswise, there isn’t much that Dodge has done to differentiate the Hellcat and the Demon. Except for the Demon badging around the car, the different pattern of the alloy wheels, and the air intake on the bonnet (slighty a bigger unit), it’s hard to differentiate between the two. Well, wondering where the changes are then? Read on.

Dodge has made significant changes and modifications to the engine. The Demon has a massive 6.2-litre supercharged V8 powerplant that belts out a mind-numbing 840 HP vs. the Hellcat’s 707 HP. This shot in the number of horses is achieved by installing a larger 2.7-litre supercharger, new pistons, rods, valve trains and also implementing two dual-stage fuel pumps. The motor’s rev limit has also been increased from 6200 RPM to 6500 RPM. Dodge has given the Demon three sources of air intakes, one on the hood, one in the driver-side headlamp and one near the wheel liner.

All the above mods translate into superfast straight-line performance. For instance, 0-60 MPH (0-92 km/hr) comes in just 2.3 seconds, the quarter-mile in just 9.65 seconds at 140 MPH (225 km/hr). All these numbers make the Demon hold a Guinness World Record for first ever front wheel lift in a production car! There is an updated 8HP90 8-speed automatic transmission that includes an upgraded torque converter. The car’s front passenger seat, rear seat, 16-speakers and a host of wiring has been removed, and this has reduced the weight by 200 pounds (90 kgs).

Production is expected to commence this summer and Dodge will be limiting the Demon to just 3000 units heading to the United States and 300 units to Canada. While Dodge is yet to announce the price of the Challenger SRT Demon, the company has stated it will cost under $1,00,000 (Rs. 65 lakhs).
