Bajaj says ‘Dominar customers happy’ and is confident that sales target will reach 10,000 units per month.

Bajaj Dominar 400 Matte Black Launched
Bajaj recently launched the Dominar 400 in a Matte Black colour option

Showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo as a concept, the Dominar 400 (known as Pulsar CS 400 back then) did receive a large reception there, being the highest displacement motorcycle from Bajaj’s stable. Bajaj launched the motorcycle in December 2016 and surprised everyone by naming it as Dominar rather than the expected Pulsar tag.

Meanwhile, Bajaj had planned another surprise and it was the price. The Dominar 400 was launched at Rs. 1.36 lakhs for the non-ABS variant. At that price point it took the fight straight to the Royal Enfield Classic 350. The Dominar 400 comes with features that motorcycles priced twice the Dominar do not offer.

Full-LED headlamps, slipper clutch and ABS and factor in the price, the Dominar 400 is still one of the best value for money propositions in India till date. However, post-GST, prices for the Dominar 400 have been slightly increased, the non-ABS variant now trades at Rs. 1,41,054/- and the ABS variant sells at Rs. 1,55,215/- (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).

Bajaj says that the every customer of the Dominar 400 is happy with the motorcycle although we could have disagreements as many have complained about vibrations and the stiff suspension. Our long term Dominar 400 too is facing several issues including heavy vibrations and a stiff ride at the rear.

The Dominar 400 started off with good sales numbers but off late sales have been diminishing. In May 2017, Bajaj managed to sell just 1500 units of the Dominar while in the initial months, sales figures stood at somewhere over 3000 units. With different marketing tactics and more motorcycles planned on the Dominar 400 platform, Bajaj intends to reach a sales target of 10,000 units a month next year.
