Driving Licence Test

The government is reportedly considering changes to the driving licence renewal process that could require motorists with a history of traffic violations to undergo a fresh driving test. The proposal is part of a broader effort aimed at improving road safety and strengthening driver accountability.

According to reports, drivers with repeated traffic offences may be required to clear a driving test when applying to renew their licence. The proposed rule would apply specifically to motorists whose driving record includes violations that warrant additional scrutiny during the renewal process.

The report also states that drivers whose licences have been suspended or cancelled due to traffic violations may need to complete refresher training before becoming eligible for a new licence. They would also be required to pass a driving test as part of the reinstatement process.

In addition to the proposed testing requirements, the government is reportedly planning to revise the validity period of driving licences. Under the proposal, licences could remain valid until the holder reaches 50 years of age, replacing the current rule under which licences are generally issued for 20 years or until the holder turns 40, whichever comes earlier.

The proposed changes have not yet been officially notified and further details regarding implementation and timelines are awaited.
