Ducati recalls 393 Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 bikes in India
Ducati India has announced a recall of 393 units of its Panigale V4 (2018–2024) and Streetfighter V4 (2018–2025) motorcycles to address a potential defect in the rear wheel shaft. This action forms part of a larger global recall that also covers multiple markets.
Scope of the Recall
The recall affects Ducati’s flagship V4 models sold in India over the past seven years. While 393 motorcycles are impacted in India, the issue is far wider internationally. Around 10,000 units are being recalled in the United States, including the Panigale V4 S, Streetfighter V4 S, as well as the high-performance Panigale V4 R and Superleggera V4. Germany accounts for nearly 7000 affected motorcycles, with other countries such as Canada also included.
Cause and Background
The recall traces back to an incident reported in September 2023, where a rear wheel shaft fractured while the motorcycle was in motion. Importantly, the wheel did not detach and no injuries were reported. Ducati and regulators have not identified a single definitive cause, but documents submitted to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) point to multiple contributing factors, such as incorrect torque application during adjustments, general vehicle condition and mileage.
Action Plan in India
Ducati India has confirmed that owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly. Authorised dealerships will carry out inspections and if required, replace the rear wheel shaft at no cost to customers. The brand has emphasised that this recall is a precautionary step to ensure rider safety and maintain quality standards.
