Ferrari has unveiled the 12Cilindri Manuale, introducing a new transmission system designed to replicate the experience of driving a traditional manual gearbox. Although it features a clutch pedal and gated gear lever, the car does not use a conventional manual transmission. Production will be limited to 1499 units, with each priced at €590,000 (approximately Rs. 6.42 crore).
The 12Cilindri Manuale is powered by the same 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine found in the standard model. The engine produces 830 HP and 678 Nm of torque, revs up to 9500 RPM and continues to drive the rear wheels.
Instead of replacing the existing transmission, Ferrari has developed a new ‘Manuale By-Wire’ system. The setup retains the standard 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox but electronically simulates the behaviour of a 6-speed manual. Inputs from the clutch pedal and gated shifter are interpreted by sensors, allowing drivers to perform manual gear changes without a mechanical linkage between the gear lever and transmission.
According to Ferrari, the system allows drivers to experience actions typically associated with a manual gearbox, including clutch engagement, heel-and-toe downshifts and even engine stalls. When preferred, the transmission can also be switched back to fully automatic mode, allowing the dual-clutch gearbox to handle gear changes.
Performance figures remain unchanged from the standard 12Cilindri. Ferrari claims a 0-100 km/hr time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/hr. The company says launch control continues to deliver the quoted acceleration figures, while the transmission’s additional gears help maintain the car’s maximum speed.
Visually, the Manuale receives a number of subtle styling updates. These include Manuale badging on the front fenders, silver-finished Ferrari side logos, revised front and rear detailing inspired by the classic Ferrari 365 GTB4, and exclusive forged five-spoke alloy wheels. Buyers can also choose an optional exterior livery created specifically for this version.
Inside, the most significant change is a redesigned centre console housing the aluminium-finished gated gear lever. The cabin also offers unique upholstery with six vertical grooves on the seats, while retaining the triple-screen dashboard layout from the standard 12Cilindri.
