The Punto Abarth will revolutionise performance hatchbacks in India

Fiat India will be making a host of car lovers very happy next month when it finally launches the Abarth Punto in the country. The automaker’s second Abarth model in India, the performance hatchback is both fast and affordable and certainly something that we would like to see more often on our roads. Now the Italian manufacturer has kickstarted the ‘Who Am I’ promotional campaign to promote the Punto in an interesting way. Fiat India invited prospective customers to drive the new Punto prior but with a twist.

Unlike the regular test drive vehicles, the test car was completely camouflaged hiding its design, logos and nameplate both outside and inside the cabin. The customers were then asked to drive the vehicle and give their opinion on the likes and dislikes of the hatchback. With positive feedback coming in on the video, customers found the car to be stable, comfortable, having impressive braking and steering feedback, while the suspension and ground clearance particularly impressed some. The standard Punto Evo has always been a driver’s delight given its sorted dynamics and drivers will want to exploit the car’s capabilities for sure.

Fiat’s next launch in India is the Abarth Punto which is powered by a 1.4-litre T-Jet petrol engine that churns out 145 HP at 5500 RPM and 200 Nm of torque between 2000-4000 RPM, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The hot hatch is capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr run in under 10 seconds and gets cosmetic upgrades like Scorpion badging, new decals, Scorpion claw shaped 16-inch alloys, lower ground clearance, aluminium pedals and new fabric upholstered seats with contrast stitching. Bookings for the Abarth Punto have commenced at select Fiat dealerships for a token amount of Rs. 50,000/- while pricing will be under the Rs. 10 lakh mark (ex-showroom).
