Formula 1 movie filming to commence from Silverstone GP

In a thrilling development for Formula 1 enthusiasts and movie lovers alike, filming for an upcoming untitled movie centred around the prestigious racing sport is set to kick off during the 2023 Silverstone Grand Prix.

The film’s lead, the renowned actor Brad Pitt, is even scheduled to take the wheel during the race weekend, adding an extra layer of excitement. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work in “Top Gun: Maverick.”

F1 journalist Will Buxton revealed more details on Twitter, describing the cast and crew as a cohesive “11th team.” However, Pitt and his co-stars will not be competing on a live track alongside professional racers. Instead, filming will occur during breaks between sessions and will continue at various F1 events throughout the year.

Buxton also revealed a new technical achievement by the film team that has designed the “smallest moveable 6k camera” ever created. This camera will provide viewers with a new perspective from inside the cockpit, offering a glimpse into the world of Formula 1 racing.

While Pitt’s character will not be driving a Formula 1 car per se, he will instead pilot a modified Formula 2 car, adapted by Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes team. Additionally, Hamilton himself is lending his expertise to assist with the film’s script.

Earlier comments from F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali have indicated that the film production will be a significant undertaking. Domenicali addressed investor inquiries in April, emphasising the need for control over the filming process. However, he expressed belief that this endeavour will showcase Formula 1’s unwavering spirit and constant activity, stating, “It will be another way of showing that Formula 1 never stops.”

The movie’s premise revolves around Pitt portraying a seasoned Formula 1 driver enticed out of retirement to team up with a rookie. Joining Pitt in this movie is Damson Idris, known for his role in the FX series “Snowfall.” Additionally, Oscar nominee Kerry Condon will feature as a Technical Director in the film.
