Hero MotoCorp’s Maestro Edge and Duet scooters have issues with the crankshaft and the same has been replaced silently.

Hero Maestro Edge Video Review
Hero has been replacing the faulty crankshaft silently

You read it first on MotorBeam. Hero MotoCorp might be the world’s biggest 2-wheeler manufacturer by volumes but the company is still in the nascent stages of establishing its R&D as it has relied on Honda for technology for a real long time. The company’s first self developed products were the Maestro Edge and Duet scooters and both have been recalled, albeit too silently.

Multiple dealers and sources in the company close to us, inform us that the automaker’s Maestro Edge and Duet scooters have issues in the crankshaft with more than 2 lakh units being affected. But Hero made no official recalls, nor did the dealers inform customers about the issue, going ahead and replacing the faulty parts silently in service, as instructed by the company. The recall job took four hours long.

Both the Maestro Edge and Duet share engines and thus the crankshaft too but the former also has issues with the carburetor which too is being replaced. The Maestro Edge is manufactured at Hero’s new facility in Neemrana while the Duet is produced at the company’s Haridwar facility.

Issues can happen with any product but with SIAM’s voluntary recall code in place, it is expected of automakers to make official announcements of recalls as such steps only reinforce trust in the brand.
