Gets full-LED headlamps with 9 LED array inline shell

Honda City 2020 is finally hitting the showrooms in India next month. The Japanese carmaker has officially revealed the specifications and launch timeline of the new C-segment sedan.

It is the 5th generation model that gets a completely new design and interior along with a long list of features. Honda claims it is the longest and widest sedan in the segment. It has 506 litres of boot capacity.

The new City will be offered with both BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engine options. The new 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine produces 121 PS at 6600 RPM and 145 Nm at 4300 RPM. It comes with 6-speed manual gearbox that returns claimed fuel efficiency of 17.8 km/l. There’s a CVT automatic unit too which returns 18.4 km/l.

The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine churns out 100 PS at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm at 1750 RPM. Diesel only comes with 6-speed manual returning 24.1 km/l of mileage.

New City gets Full LED headlamps with 9 LED array inline shell and integrated DRLs along with LED tail lamps. The interior gets new 7-inch HD full colour TFT instrument cluster with G-meter.

There is a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with latest interface. Just like the Civic, it comes with LaneWatch camera. There’s Alexa remote capability with connected car tech. Other features include electric sunroof, auto headlight, auto dimming IRVM, all 4 power windows auto up/down with pinch guard, rear sunshade, ambient lighting, etc.

Honda is offering steering mounted paddle shifters for CVT variants. For safety, there are 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Agile Handling Assist (AHA), Hill Start Assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, etc.

It has smart key offering engine one-push start/stop, touch sensor based keyless entry, electrical trunk lock with keyless release, walkaway auto lock, remote engine start, all auto power windows and sunroof keyless operation.

Honda will reveal the pricing and variant details in July. The bookings of the new City will commence soon. It will compete against the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and the likes.
