Honda reduces City e:HEV hybrid price by Rs. 1 lakh, boosts value offering
Honda Cars India has announced a significant price reduction for the City e:HEV hybrid sedan, lowering its ex-showroom price to Rs. 19.89 lakhs. This marks a price cut of nearly Rs. 1 lakh from its previous tag of Rs. 20.85 lakhs. The strong-hybrid sedan continues to be offered exclusively in the fully-loaded ZX trim.
Introduced in 2022, the City e:HEV marked Honda’s re-entry into the hybrid passenger car segment in India after models like the Civic and Accord hybrids. The car received a facelift alongside the standard City petrol model in 2023, enhancing its appeal in the premium sedan segment.
The City e:HEV remains India’s only mass-market strong-hybrid sedan, positioned well below its nearest hybrid competitor, the Toyota Camry, which carries a significantly higher price tag.
Under the hood, the City Hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor and a battery pack housed beneath the boot floor. Together, the system produces 125 BHP, with power delivered to the front wheels through a CVT gearbox.
The feature list includes an extensive set of modern amenities such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), six airbags, LED headlights, Honda’s LaneWatch camera, a semi-digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
The Honda City e:HEV competes with the higher-spec petrol variants of the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia. However, none of these rivals offer a comparable strong-hybrid powertrain option, giving the City e:HEV a unique advantage for buyers seeking fuel efficiency and advanced technology.
