Honda is planning to launch a completely new cruiser bike for India that will take on the likes of Royal Enfield. The new bike will be made in India and will be different from Honda’s global products in this segment.

Honda has strongly considered to launch a bike in this segment and is yet to commence working on this new bike as it includes creating a concept, selecting the engine capacity and the engine type. Honda has stated that this new bike will be 100 percent made in India and will take at least 2-3 years to develop this motorcycle.

Premium motorcycles are where the growth is, with almost every 2-wheeler manufacturer planning to launch a bike in this segment and intending to a grab a share of the pie. While Benelli, Husqvarna and Honda are planning to launch a motorcycle in this segment, BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor will be launching their bikes in this segment shortly.

This new bike is expected to be in the 300cc-400cc segment and will take on Royal Enfield which is the market leader in this segment selling an average of 57,000 bikes a month. Honda intends to be the number 1 in the Indian 2-wheeler market by 2020 with automatic scooters largely leading the volumes for the automaker. Honda’s next target is to enhance its motorcycle sales in the rural markets.
