At the recently held Bajaj’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), there was one announcement that especially caught attention. Mr Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto has officially announced Husqvarna Motorcycle’s India entry in 2019.

Husqvarna was originally a Sweden-based manufacturer that was acquired by BMW and later sold to none other than the Austrian motorcycle company, KTM. You know the connection now. Bajaj and KTM have seen a constant rise in profits and sales with their alliance and they now want Husqvarna Motorcycles to experience the same faith.

Bajaj will first launch two Husqvarna motorcycles in India, the Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401. While the Vitpilen 401 is a café-racer, the Svartpilen 401 is a scrambler. Since Husqvarna is owned by KTM, the companies share a lot of parts. Currently, the Vitpilen and the Svartpilen use the 373cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor from the KTM Duke 390 that produces 43.5 HP and is connected to a 6-speed gearbox. The WP upside down forks at the front and the WP monoshock at the rear too are carried over from the Duke 390. Even the brakes that are made by ByBre are the same.

Design wise though, the KTM and the Husqvarna bikes look completely different. The Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, with its low-slung handlebars, and its 17-inch wire spoke wheels give it that proper café racer look. While the off-road nature of the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is enhanced by the taller and wider handlebars and the 17-inch spoke wheels that get an on-off road treaded rubber.

With the launch of the Husqvarna Motorcycles, the Bajaj-KTM alliance will only strengthen further. The companies have always managed to price their bikes very competitively and we hope that this remains the case when the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 come to India next year.
